The Second Messy House Tour

8 May

Here we go with the upstairs!! It’s equivalent in space to the downstairs except it doesn’t include the nook:

Let’s take you right up the steps! I love the landing up here and I’m thinking of ways to add a little something to it!

Here is the hallway at the top of the steps! It’s really wide (when there isn’t stacks of furniture in the way ;) haha) which I love. I can just imagine the house being full but not feeling crowded at all!

Okay! So starting at the first door on the left!

Welcome to the Master Bedroom! Which we don’t have enough furniture to fill at the moment … looks like we have some shopping to do! Brian and I have already bought a new bedspread and are chatting about headboard ideas :)

The master bath – sorry this picture is a little fuzzy, I had a little helper at my feet. It is the biggest most spacious bathroom I have EVER HAD! Did I mention this bedroom has a his and her’s closet AS WELL as a linen closet in here? That seems a bit crazy but I’ll take whatever storage I can get!

Here is where most people ooh and ahhh and I kind of shrug my shoulders. Don’t get me wrong! I love baths – but in order to fill up this tub to have a bath – there’s never any hot water left and you are sitting in a luke warm space. I’ve checked out some ideas to repurpose this space since I probably won’t be using it (I’ll be using Emma’s tub instead).

Back out in the hallway the second door on your left.

The guest bathroom (Emma’s bathroom). It may seem small because I’m standing in the doorway but it’s NOT! After giving Emma a bath in here I realized how nice and spacious this space really is! We’ll be doing some updating in this space as well :)

Back out in the hallway – last door on your left.

This is GOING to be Emma’s room. We are in the process of painting and setting up this room for her so this one is a project in the works. Temporarily she is staying in the guest room.

So back out in the hallway – last door on your right (right across from Emma’s soon to be room)

Is her temporary room / the guest room. This will be rearranged differently once we move her into her room.

Back into the hallway – passed the linen closet (another linen closet!!!) is the first door on your right.

Which looks like a big heap of MESS. This is my to be craft room!!!! This is where I will be spending nap times and weekends. Making things happen! Of course it’s going to take some time to get this room up and ready to go ;)

So that’s the upstairs tour! Friday I’ll be showing you what we are working on down the basement and the outdoor tour of our house & community!

Thanks for stopping by!

Jennifer

I did it!!

24 Apr

I did it – I did it! Hip hip hooray! I made my first cell phone case the other day :)

It still needs the button and loop but I am very proud of myself!

After finishing up mine I started to check out other examples of crocheted cases and look what I found:

Which one do you like best?

Better Late Than Never!

22 Apr

Are things better late than never? I’m not sure but I guess you’ll let me know since I’ve posted so late today!

What I wanted to share with you today was what I have been doing lately – I’ve been scouring YouTube checking out crochet tutorials. Recently I bought a pile of crochet pattern books with my Christmas money and was getting more than frustrated trying to figure them out. I know I can’t be the only person that is constantly frustrated with patterns. I don’t know what the problem is but I am so much better at following a pattern when I can SEE someone doing it rather than reading how to do it. This weekend a watched a couple cool videos and I’m going to show two of them to you:

This one is for a cell phone case and it’s so easy and cute I couldn’t resist trying out it. Mine isn’t quite done due to my buttons being all packed up in the move – but I plan on finishing it and showing you pictures as soon as I can!

This one is for crochet jewelry! After watching this tutorial my mind went wild with possibilities! Now all I can think about is crocheting so my packing might be taking a seat while I spend the next few hours getting crafty ;)

I hope this inspires you as much as it did me! If you try any of these out please let me know! I’d love to hear what you think!

Love Always,

Jennifer

A New Way To View?

19 Apr

Hey everyone! I came across a new website the other day and thought I would share it. It’s a mix between blogging and pinterest. For those bloggers who like short & sweet posts with pretty pictures this may be for you! It’s called :

It looks so similar to the way you view pinterest with the blocked off sections and topics to choose from but these are all bloggers or magazines who blog! Although I haven’t used Sulia to write a post on I have used it for reading material and finding new blogs. It’s been interesting to flip through this in the morning and see what else new is going on. I tend to check the crafts tab which looks like this:

I’d flip through until I found something that caught my eye and then yLou can click the link or add them to your “trusted” sites to view. This is like wordpress’s reader. You trust or follow someone and get to see their new posts on your “feed”. I found this bib necklace interesting so I l clicked on the link to see the blogger!

Needless to say I got distracted for a little while! I don’t know if I”ll be checking in on a daily basis to see what’s happening over there since half of my reading time is following most of you on wordpress ;) but who knows – this could be future!

What do you think of Sulia?

Love Always,

Jennifer

Polymer Clay Creations

18 Apr

I have been getting into making polymer clay jewelry and I was hoping to share some of the things I have made with everyone!  I have just been playing around, trying to get the hang of it and I have made some pieces that I love!  I’m thinking I might make an etsy store soon and I am looking to get some feedback on some of my creations.

I recently went to my first craft show, and realized  I was NOT as prepared as many of the artisans selling their works.  I have to say that I learned a lot looking at the set ups.  I need to find a great way to display my jewelry and I am looking into some crafty ways to make displays and I will probably by posting some tutorials for some interesting hangers etc.

Below is what  I call my “Naturals” because they are made either from or to like like parts of nature!

These are my helicopter earrings, made from the seeds of a maple tree.  We have a couple large maple trees in my back yard and my sister and I would throw them in the air and watch as they danced to the ground!  I love that I can now wear them on my ears :)

Here is a picture of some of my leaf imprint necklaces (also with my braid which is obviously not part of my naturals).  Below are some up close pictures of those necklaces.

The above is on black clay with an olive green metallic shimmer finished with a glossy glaze.

Here is on with a blue shimmer.  I also have ones in silver and gold.  I just love these!

These are made just like the helicopter earrings and leaf necklaces, with a leaf imprint and a metallic shimmer.  These actually look pink in the light, but the camera didn’t capture that :( .

This is my orchid!  If you know me well then you know that my favorite flowers are orchids, every kind!  This I sculpted by hand and it took forever because it is so small and delicate.  It was almost impossible to place the veins, and I had to use a needle to place them on the petals since my fingers were too big (and I wear child-size gloves!)  It was all worth it because I love the end result.

Below are my bows!  The light pink was my first attempt, but you can see I’ve gotten better!  The hot pink is my favorite and I plan to make many more and possibly post a tutorial for you guys!

Below are just some pictures of random pendants I have made.

This is an old-school William and Mary symbol!  The first craft show I went to was the Second Sundays event in colonial Williamsburg and I decided to pay homage to my mom’s school!

This is just a creative pendant I made from pinks, black and silver.  I was just having fun, but I like the result!

This is my squiggle!  I really like it even though it looks like a snake with no face, haha!

This is just a pendant I made from a stamp, but I loved the pattern!  I prefer to make my own designs though.

This is Cartman!  I also am a big fan of South Park, although I usually don’t like cartoons.  But I knew my guy friends would get a kick out of seeing the cartoon cast, after seeing all my bows and girly things :) .

Well that is it for my creations, but many more are on their way!  I hope you like them and please send me some feedback if you have any!  Also, if there is anything you would like to see me do, give me the challenge, bring it on!

Too-de-loo!

Pack Pack Pack it up!

10 Apr

This girl is packing up!

But don’t worry we’ll still be here posting ;) I just wanted to share the good news with you! We bought a house! We are moving at the end of this month so things you have to look forward to coming May – new home updates, new home projects, home decor projects, shopping trips, budgeting, and probably a ton of ridiculous photo’s of me trying to do more than I can handle ;)

Although you might be a little disappointed because all of this:

Will now be packed up in boxes – which makes doing DIY projects a little hard. So until then I’ll be  keeping you posted with things that I can do while I’m in the middle of boxes ;) I’ll be focusing on organizing, spring cleaning, and time management – because we all know I’ll need all of those things in order to get through this move! Haha!

And because I’m just so darn excited about it – check out the new place:

I am so excited I can hardly contain myself! Here are a few projects Brian and I have already decided on doing when we move in:

~ Painting painting painting!

~ Crown molding

~ Buying some new furniture!!

~ Setting up my new craft room & light room for pictures

~ Staining the cabinets (if Brian lets me)

~ Painting my desk

~ A little yard work

What are you excited about seeing?

I’m also excited about the thrift & consignment stores this place has! I’ll be taking pictures so you can check it out with me but I have a feeling just stepping foot in those stores is going to make my project list triple! Luckily this house is really move in ready. There isn’t much to fix but cosmetic things so what you’ll be seeing are finishing touches to make it our own but knowing how I am – I can easily find projects to do ;)

I think I’m especially going to go project crazy since all of my things are going to be in boxes for the next three weeks! Is it just me or is it impossible to not be crafty for that long!? I don’t know what I’m going to do but I have a feeling my pinterest board is going to fill up quickly!

Do you have any packing tips to share with me? I’d love to hear them!

Love Always,

Jennifer

Craft Hope! Project 21 – Are you in?

8 Apr

Hey everyone! I’m so excited to share with you today a small group of people who are making a HUGE difference in the world as well as the handmade community!

C was made by a wonderful woman named Jade. She had a dream of making the world a better place and decided to create this website to do just that. On Craft Hope’s website you’ll see projects which they do. They find a place, people, or charity in need and figure out what handmade item would best benefit it. For example when a tornado hit southeastern USA, they decided to collect handmade security blankets and send them to those who survived – 366 blankets were made! For the wildfire in Texas they collected sock monkeys for the children who lost their homes – over 600 sock monkey’s were collected and delivered.

If there is one thing I love – it’s giving to someone in need and to give something handmade just makes me ten times happier. After starting my business online on Etsy and being welcomed into the handmade community with open arms and more help then I could ever ask for – I can see how this site has become the massive hit it’s been.

This week they posted They are collecting blankets, scarves, and hats of all kinds. Crocheted, knit, sewn in all shapes and sizes! This is a huge effort to keep the children in Romania warm throughout the winter and I couldn’t help but sharing this! Let’s all join together and make a difference in these children’s lives! You can click on the link above to see the details and where to send the blankets to. If you decide to join in the fun please comment below to let us know and feel free to share pictures of what you send to us by email at acharmingtwist(at)gmail(dot)com!

Are you in?

Goodbye Easter!

3 Apr

It’s detoxing time in our house. We are FINALLY packing up the Easter eggs and getting rid of all the candy in the house. There comes a time after every holiday where I can’t take the sugar rushes or the temporary holiday decor and it gladly disappears! Here are some cute Easter things I found that I might have a harder time letting go if they were at my place ;)

Are you ready to get rid of your Easter things or you are you hanging on to something you aren’t ready to let go of yet?

Pinteresting Home Decor Ideas!

27 Mar

Here are some fun finds I found on pinterest for your home!  I’m always on the look out for cute things I can easily do in my own home, most of these are pretty simple:

A little ribbon, scrap fabric, and fun scrapbooking extras and you can spice up any wall!

I love the idea of making light switches and outlets a little more fun!

Styrofoam balls, scrap fabric, and some glue! You can change up the colors for the season or theme you are going for!

Saving the best for last! An old window put to good use! not only is it pretty to look at but it’s extra storage!

What’s your favorite thing to do to change up a space in your home?

Love Always,

Jennifer
